The World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) is a global network of organisations representing the Fair Trade supply chain. Membership in WFTO provides Fair Trade organisations with credibility and identity by way of an international guarantee system, a place of learning where members connect with like-minded people from around the world, tools and training to increase market access, and a common voice that speaks out for Fair Trade and trade justice - and is heard.
WFTO is the home of fair traders: producers, marketers, exporters, importers, wholesalers and retailers that demonstrate 100% commitment to Fair Trade and apply the 10 WFTO Principles of Fair Trade to their supply chain. The works and achievements of its members make WFTO a global authority on Fair Trade and a guardian of Fair Trade values and principles.
WFTO’s route to equity in trade is through the integrated supply chain. Practices used across the supply chain are checked against the WFTO Fair Trade Standard, a set of compliance criteria based on the 10 Fair Trade Principles and on International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions.
The WFTO operates in over 70 countries across 5 regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America and the Pacific Rim) with elected global and regional boards.

The Fairtrade Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation that focuses on four key areas of work in the UK:
  • We provide independent certification of the trade chain for products and license the use of the FAIRTRADE Mark on products
  • We help in growing demand for Fairtrade products and empowering  producers to sell to traders and retailers
  • We find new ways of working with our partners to support producer organisations and their networks
  • We raise awareness of the need for Fairtrade to the public and the significant role  of Fairtrade in making trade fair
Our hundreds of Fairtrade Towns, Faith Groups, Schools and Universities and committed supporters are vital in helping us realise our vision of fair trade.

Our organisational strategy for 2016-2020, FAIRTRADE CAN, I CAN, sets out our ambition to deliver greater impact for producers, and engage even more of the UK public in shopping and campaigning for a better deal for farmers and workers in developing countries.

The Foundation was established in 1992 by CAFOD, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Traidcraft, Global Justice Now, and the National Federation of Women’s Institutes.  Member organisations now also include Banana Link, All We Can, National Campaigner Committee, Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign, People & Planet, Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund, Shared Interest Foundation, Soroptimist International , Tearfund and Commitment to Life / United Reformed Church.

The Foundation is the UK member of Fairtrade International, which unites over 20 labelling initiatives across Europe, Japan, North America, Mexico and Australia/New Zealand as well as networks of producer organisations from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Fairtrade Foundation is a registered charity (no. 1043886). It is also a company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales (no. 2733136).

Traidcraft is founded on Christian principles. We seek to live out the Christian faith through our mission to fight poverty through trade. Since 1979 we’ve been working for trade justice for growers and producers in the poorest countries around the world.

Traidcraft is a pioneer of the fair trade movement in the UK where we jointly founded the Fairtrade Foundation. Our activities also include overseas development programmes, trade policy, campaigns and trade justice.

Traidcraft believes that to achieve change we need to combine a range of activities:
  • Trading directly with producers
  • Scaling up the learning from that activity (with a wider range of beneficiaries and a focus on local markets as well as international trade)
  • Addressing the need for wider structural and policy change through modelling good business practices
  • Mobilising consumers to influence government and corporate behaviour.

To carry out these activities we work through two financially and legally distinct entities - a trading company and a development charity.

Over the years we have demonstrated our ability to have impact and influence that far exceeds the scale of our activities, and have established ourselves as a global leader in making trade work for the people in the developing world.

Zaytoun was founded in 2004 to support the resilience and livelihoods of Palestinian farmers under occupation through fairly trading their olive oil. Initially funded by hundreds of customers who put up payment in advance of receiving their oil, Zaytoun quickly established itself as a UK social enterprise.

With funding from Triodos Bank the company developed to offer a wide range of Palestinian artisan foods. Canaan Fair Trade in Palestine and Zaytoun in the UK worked together and supported Palestinian farmers to pioneer the world’s first Fairtrade certified olive oil in 2009.

The range continues to grow, and is now available nationwide through wholesalers, independent shops, online, in Oxfam and of course through our very active network of volunteer distributors. We run two trips a year for customers to visit Palestine and learn more about life for a farming family there, and bring producers to the UK once a year for Fairtrade Fortnight.

Celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2014,  we remain a successful Community Interest Company supporting the relationship between Palestinian producer communities and a growing network of passionate, discerning customers in the UK and Ireland.
