The John Bentley School
An Outstanding Centre For Learning
Year 8 at The John Bentley School joined the Calne Fairtrade Community Campaign on Thursday 28th September 2017, with a Fairtrade Day of learning and artwork.
Stan Woods, chairman of the Calne Community Area Fairtrade Group kicked off the day by leading the special Year 8 assembly with an interactive talk about the Calne Fairtrade Community Campaign, ably assisted by Town Councillor John Boaler, who is a member of the Fairtrade Campaign Steering Committee. There was an excellent interaction with the pupils, no doubt enhanced by the presence of some Fairtrade chocolate. County Councillor, Tom Rounds finished off the assembly, with a few words of encouragement to Year 8 about getting involved with Fairtrade and its importance to those overseas producers whose livelihoods and the well-being of their communities depend on fair returns for their labours. We hope to use a two or three selected examples of the artwork created by Year 8 during the Fairtrade Day as part of our Campaign advertising. Particular thanks for the development of the programme for the Fairtrade day are due to JBS staff: Peter Grant (Assistant Headteacher) Patricia Kelly (Head of Citizenship and PSHE), Clare Halsey (Head of Year 8), and others supporting the teaching on the day.
Below you can find a few images from the assembly, and here is a link to slideshows of the FINALISTS and of ALL of the finished artwork produced during the day.
