About the CALNE Fairtrade Community Campaign
GET INVOLVED
We want Calne and its surrounding Parishes to be awarded Fairtrade Community Status, like many other towns and Parishes in Wiltshire and across the country.
Care about Calne? - want to help us? Then call or email. Want to show your support for what we are doing? Then use the contact page to tell us. We also have a twitter and facebook page so you can "tweet" support or "like" what we are doing. |
CALNE Community Area Fairtrade Group has launched this campaign to help Calne and its surrounding Parishes to become a Fairtrade Community with a target to apply for Fairtrade status by the end of 2018 and to achieve it by Fairtrade Fortnight - March 2019. We have the support of the Town Council to partner in this and the support of the Calne Area Board and have approached the Parish councils too.
What does the campaign consist of?
We have formed a steering committee (an enlarged Group Committee including two councillors) to work together to encourage and enthuse, councils, cafes, restaurants, churches, businesses, schools, and other organisations to sell, use and educate about Fairtrade marked products. Of course, some already do this so we are not starting for a completely blank canvas, but we need to take a structured approach to discovering, informing and documenting what is already being done and what new Fairtrade practices are developed during the project. This will be undertaking to a set series of auditable goals so we know what we need to achieve in advance.
Having done all that (not an inconsiderable task!) we can then submit our application to the Fairtrade Foundation to consider what we have done, and award the Fairtrade Towns mark if we have completed the goals. Then we have to work to keep our fairtrade status by making progress in fairtrade activity in the Calne Community Area year on year.
